Vijazz 2025: The jazz that brought me back home
18th edition of the jazz festival in Vilafranca del Penedès: established artists, unexpected discoveries and the double bass as a common thread.
I attended the 18th edition of Vijazz in Vilafranca del Penedès as an accredited photographer. Exceptional programming, with established artists, unexpected discoveries and a notable presence of bass instruments as a common thread running throughout the festival.
Equipment
I worked primarily in digital, with a Canon EOS 6D and 70-200mm zoom as the main setup, supplemented by Canon 28mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8 lenses for alternative angles.
As backup: a Leica D-Lux 6 and a Leica M6 with 28mm and 50mm lenses for film photography.
Festival restrictions
No flash, and access to the stage area is limited to the first song. After that, photographers must remain seated and discreet so as not to obstruct the audience’s view. A restriction I know well, and one that helps me concentrate on the possibilities of the moment.
For the analogue photographs I used Fomapan 400 (push processed), though for similar shoots in future I’m considering returning to APX400 or Rollei RPX400.

I hope you enjoy the images as much as I enjoyed being back home, surrounded by music, memories, and most of all, photography.
